SNOW FELL SOFTLY OUTSIDE AS

SANTA SAT AT THE KITCHEN TABLE.

“You’re not reading,” Mrs. Claus said, sliding a mug of
cocoa toward him. “You’re thinking.”

“I’ve been thinking about the house,” Santa replied.
“The house… or the size of the house?” she smiled.

For centuries, their North Pole home had been perfect
— space for visiting elves, toy prototypes, and guest
rooms once full of life. But now, most of the year, the

halls felt quiet.
“It’s a lot to maintain,” Santa admitted. “I spend more

time xing things than enjoying them.”
“Our home t our season once,” Mrs. Claus said gently.

“Seasons change.”

“HAVE YOU BEEN TALKING

TO NORMA JEAN AGAIN?”

They walked through familiar rooms lled with
memories — the wrapping room, unused guest suites,

the oversized hearth.
“I don’t want to give up Christmas,” Santa said softly.

“And you’re not,” Mrs. Claus replied. “You’re just
choosing what ts now.”

Santa smiled. “I’ve always said the magic isn’t in the
stu — it’s in the joy.”
